Yes. Ohio law gives judges the authority to release defendants from probation early. (Generally, to be released from probation early you have to pay off your fines, complete at least half of your probation and complete all court ordered classes and treatment.)
Ohio Shorten Probation:
Upon entry in the records of the judge or magistrate of the sentence of a community control sanction provided for in section 2929.15 or 2929.25 of the Revised Code, the defendant shall be released from custody as soon as the requirements and conditions required by the judge supervising the community control sanction have been met. The defendant shall continue under the control and supervision of the appropriate probation agency, to the extent required by law, the conditions of the community control sanction, and the rules and regulations governing the probation agency.
Effective Date: 01-01-2004
A community control sanction continues for the period that the judge or magistrate determines and, subject to the five-year limit specified in section 2929.15or 2929.25 of the Revised Code, may be extended. If the offender under community control absconds or otherwise leaves the jurisdiction of the court without permission from the probation officer, the probation agency, or the court to do so, or if the offender is confined in any institution for the commission of any offense, the period of community control ceases to run until the time that the offender is brought before the court for its further action. My Story: I'm a regular guy who got into trouble and pled guilty to a felony. I went to prison and served my time. I was always on my best behavior. I paid off my fines early and complied with the judge's orders. To make a long story short, I was able to get off probation two years early. I wrote and filed my motion to terminate probation early by myself. I didn't have the money to hire a lawyer. I can assure you that my story is completely true.
